Graphic description of the chart

The Moon is the chart of intuition, dreams and the unconscious. The moon gives light as a reflection of the sun, but this light is dim, uncertain, and only vaguely illuminates our path on our journey to higher consciousness.

The Moon in the tarot

The pond at the bottom of the card represents the subconscious mind and the crayfish crawling out of the water symbolizes the early stages of the development of consciousness.

This creature also represents the often disturbing images that appear in our inner depths, just as the dog and wolf at the beginning of the path represent our duality of the domesticated self and the wild aspects of our minds and spirit.

The path passes between the two stone towers and leads to the mountains in the distance, pointing the way to the unconscious.

What does the Moon mean in the Tarot?

The Moon in right hand position, General meaning: This card symbolizes both illusion and fear, anxiety, insecurity, the subconscious, what is in our dark side.

It is a time of confusion from which you have to get out, where the past is very influential, which conditions you at this moment and if you do not overcome it, renew yourself and change, the future darkens and becomes uncertain.

It is a card that has to do with fear, which immobilizes you and which you must overcome to turn things around.

This Moon card is a good representation of “The Shadow” and “The Mirror”, two definitions of Carl Jung that indicate the darkness of our unconscious, that as long as we do not bring it to the light, it will continue to affect our existence.

In the shadow are our instincts, the hidden passions, what we often cannot name and that we externalize in the form of projection on others.

This is the mirror, where we put on the other, moral or emotional deficiencies that are ours but as we cannot accept, we project on the other.

What we point out, criticize and accuse in others, says Jung, is in reality our own deficiency. The moon represents the deceptive, the illusion. While the moon’s light illuminates, it does not illuminate fully, and what we see with it may be a deceptive perception.

So according to the other cards in the reading, if they are also negative, it will indicate that everything is not as it seems to be, and you will have to be very attentive to perceive reality as it really is.

If the cards are positive, the moon will indicate that perhaps you are letting your imagination run too much, exaggerating perhaps, and seeing things that are only happening in your imagination.

This is a card that can point to deep-seated emotions, basically related to the fear that past events have left in you, and now you are projecting into your present and your future, immobilizing yourself.

This is a difficult process to carry surely, but you must bring to consciousness all that hidden information to be able to resolve and overcome it.

On the positive side, it indicates that despite the poor moonlight (despite the lack of clarity with which you see the present and the future) you are still walking the path. You are not completely sure, but nevertheless you walk. As it is a card related to intuition, this is what is driving you.

If this card comes out as an end result, it will generally tell us that it will not be positive.

If the card comes out defining a person, it will indicate that this person is problematic, full of insecurities, conflicts accompany her or she has a tendency to create them.

It can be an indication of falsehood, of not being what one says, of appearing to be something that one is not. Deep fears condition her and she is easily manipulated by others.
