Exercises to connect with the major arcana

In this chapter of the tarot course we continue with the emotional tarot. Exercises to know, feel and differentiate the emotional states of the major arcana in the Tarot.

How to differentiate the emotional states of the different Tarot cards? Exercises to connect with the emotions of the major arcana.

As we well know, each tarot card not only conveys a logical meaning, but also makes us feel emotions, sensations, in addition to the fact that each card represents and manifests an energy.

To continue deepening in the emotional approach to the Tarot, and what each card transmits to us, we will see a new exercise that we are going to perform only with the Major Arcana.

Exercises to connect with the Major Arcana

For this exercise you will need a notebook and the Tarot deck.

  1. To begin, separate the Major Arcana and mix them together. Then, draw a card at random. Examine the image in detail and if there is a main character, look at it closely.
  2. Describe in one word the emotions that the character seems to suggest. That is, is he/she happy, sad, bored, angry, indifferent, what emotion do you recognize?
  3. Use your imagination at this point, since this is a totally subjective definition of the arcane. If there is no central character, try to decipher the general emotional tone of the card. What emotion does it generate in you?
  4. Write your definition in your notebook.
  5. Now, imagine why that character or image is feeling that emotion and write it down. Read aloud what you have written before continuing.
  6. Now, for a moment, imagine that you are the character or situation in the letter and express that emotion in the first person. For example, if the card you drew is The Sun, you can say: «I am happy, I feel full of strength».
  7. Observe the card slowly and try to introduce yourself into the character or situation, until you feel the emotion, so that instead of interpreting it, you incorporate it into your being. Do this without fear, since emotions come and go.
  8. After a few moments, return the card to the deck and let the emotion dissolve on its own.

If the exercise has been too intense and you are left with an unpleasant emotion, go for a short walk or do a completely different activity.

In tarot practice it is very important to bring the rational down to a more practical and intuitive aspect, and this exercise helps you begin to feel and connect with the tarot.
