When you receive a new tarot, it is necessary to consecrate it, that is to say, to cleanse, heal or energize the cards. This is a very personal ritual and there are many ways to do it. In this chapter we will see an ancient ritual and some powerful prayers used to consecrate the tarot.

The objective is to purify the deck so that it is in tune with you, so that you can perform the readings more easily.

Remember, the consecration ritual is a very personal thing, so you can look for other methods that you feel more comfortable with. In this chapter we will look at a very deep and powerful consecration ritual.

How to consecrate a tarot?

To consecrate a tarot you will need:

  • The tarot to be consecrated
  • Copal incense to represent air
  • a white candle to represent fire
  • a plate with some earth to represent earth
  • a clear glass cup with running water to represent water
  • a table with a white or purple tablecloth
  • and optional salt.

First we must know that it is recommended to perform this ritual on a full moon, and then that the ritual is composed of 3 steps: energization, connection and gratitude, before starting you should preferably take a shower or wash your hands thoroughly before starting the ritual.

Part One: Tarot Consecration and Energization Ritual

To begin with the consecration ritual, the first thing to do is to arrange all the elements on the table with the tablecloth. We will place everything in a circle, starting from the top with the candle, to the right the cup, below the crystal and to the left the incense. Although it is optional, it is recommended to put the salt in the middle or make a circle with salt.

  1. First, it is recommended that you open your cards very carefully, and place them spread out on the tablecloth.
  2. Take the first card and blow it up and down. Do the same with all 78 cards and put them in order again.
  3. Once we have everything ready, we start with the consecration taking the tarot cards, where we will pass the cards 3 times through each element, through the flame of the candle, through the cup of water, through the earth and through the smoke of the incense.
  4. We will pass the cards in a circle, so that they go in the direction of the hands of the clock.
  5. It is important to know that you must pass the card over the flame of the candle equally on both sides, above and below, and you must do the same with the smoke of the incense.
  6. Remember that you must pass each card through the 4 elements in a circle, in a clockwise direction, while repeating the tarot consecration prayer.

Tarot Consecration Prayer

Let us look at the Tarot consecration prayer:

“I consecrate this Tarot Deck with the powers of Air, Earth, Water, Fire and Spirit. You will be used only for good according to my will, you will serve me to unveil the mysteries of the past, present and future, according to the law of the Gods. Thou shalt serve me well in the World, between Worlds and in all Worlds. So be it!!!”

You then arrange the cards one by one, with the entire deck spread out all over the tablecloth in rows of ten cards.

Once you have passed all the cards, you will say the following tarot consecration prayer:

“I, and Dices your first and last name, consecrate and entrust these cards to fire, air, water and earth, that they may represent the universe and express only the True. Amen.”

After this you put the cards together again in order to make the deck.

Tarot Consecration Ritual Part Two: Meditation for Tarot Connection

After this small ritual, we will continue with the second part of the tarot consecration ritual.

  1. To do this, you will place the deck on 2 chakras, meditate for a few minutes and send light and positive energy to your tarot.
  2. Take the deck, close your eyes and relax. Start meditating.
  3. Once you are in a state of meditation and relaxed, you will first place the tarot on your forehead, where the third eye is, for about 3 to 5 minutes while meditating, with this you will begin to create a direct connection between you and the tarot, which helps to open the intuition and see beyond.
  4. After this, you will continue to place the tarot at the level of your heart, to connect it directly with your heart chakra, this will help you to feel more.

You will do it at your own time and without rushing, we wait a few minutes meditating, always sending light and positive energy to our tarot. You can do it as long as you need. You can also visualize a light that links you with the tarot and your chakras. This step is very important, so I recommend you to do it without haste and at your own time.

Finish the Tarot Consecration Ritual

Once the meditation is finished, take the tarot in your hands, raise it upwards and give thanks with the following prayer of tarot consecration

“I charge you by the Ancient Gods: by the Goddess and the God, by the virtues of the Sun, the Moon and the Stars, by the powers of Air, Fire, Water and Earth, that through you I may do good and harm no one. Ancient Gods, charge these cards with your powers. Amen.”

After this you must place them somewhere in your house where the moonlight shines and let them be serene all night.
Once this is done the ritual is finished, then you must keep your tarot either in a wooden box or a colored cloth. Prevent other people from manipulating it
