In this chapter of the tarot course, we will see the 3-card spread, also known as the tarot of the past, present and future.
This is a basic Tarot spread and it is a simple spread of three cards that reveal the Past – Present – Future.
For each one we select a card or arcane that can be in the correct or inverted position. The Three Card Spread is widely used to ask general questions involving a timeline.
It is one of the most used spreads in tarot because of its simplicity, speed and ease, allowing you to answer simple questions with several cards.
If you are just starting in tarot, a very common trick is to use only the Major Arcana in order to better memorize their symbology and meaning, as well as to obtain results that are clearer to understand, this is very useful if you do not yet know all the meanings or do not interpret them clearly.
Therefore, it is a very suitable spread for those who are in the initiation phase as it helps to become familiar with The Arcana and the relationships between them.
It is worth noting that any question, in whose analysis the time factor is important, can be analyzed through this reading.
Examples of questions that can be answered with this spread:
- How will my business evolve during these months?
- How will I be with my partner in love?
- What will my financial situation be like?
How to make a 3-card tarot spread?
For this spread, we will work with the entire deck. If you are just starting out, you can do it with only the major arcana. To begin, we shuffle the cards and 3 cards will be placed on the table, from left to right, from left to right.
How to interpret the spread?
The reading and interpretation of the spread will be, from left to right, as follows.
- The first card refers to the past. It will show us how we have arrived at the present situation.
- The second card is the present and is the solution to the current situation. It must also be related to the previous card, since the present is the product of the actions of the past.
- The third card is the card of the future and indicates the final trend. It reveals what is going to happen in a short period of time.
If you need to know more details about the result of the spread, you can draw one more card for each position and try to find new nuances about the answers.
However, you should try to go deeper into the first spread before opting to look for new solutions.
